We'll pick everyone up in St. George, Utah and set off on our adventure! For this trip, we recommend everyone fly into Las Vegas and take the shuttle down to St. George to meet up with us! The shuttle runs all day, every hour or so, and is extremely accessible from the McCarran Airport in Las Vegas (and it goes through a super scenic gorge on the way in, where the Earth's crust juts into the sky with crazy angular formations!). We would love to help coordinate arrival times for anyone needing assistance as well and will be available to help. A full itinerary and recommendations for how to make it to our rendezvous spot will be provided to everyone upon sign-up!
If you are interested in joining us on the BRYCE CANYON PROGRAM (directly after this trip - June 21-25th - check out the details for our itinerary in the link HERE -- as well as the information about free lodging for the evening of June 20th / activities mentioned ABOVE in the "Optional Add-on: BRYCE CANYON Art Camp notes!)
We'll meet for coffee together and say hello to all of our new camp-friends and pile in the van for a scenic drive to our home to check everyone in! We've rented a beautiful 5 bedroom condo with a pool and plenty of comfortable space to sprawl out, draw, and enjoy our evenings together. Once everyone has met their roommates and we've had a quick lunch, we'll pile in the van and head to our first stop of the day, Red Cliffs Recreation Area, where the colors of the Earth vibrate brilliantly. We'll enjoy wandering the trails, sketching the little lizards and incredible formations and explore the red rocks together, locating hidden pools and plenty of incredible desert foliage.
In the evening, we'll head to our home to share a family-style meal and play games into the night!
We'll start the day off with a family-style breakfast, pack our lunches, don our swimming suits and shorts, and drive down to Zion National Park, where we'll begin our meandering, leisurely journey down the Narrows. We'll wade through knee-deep water at the base of 150+ foot cliffs. We'll meander upstream and bypass incredible views of the canyon. We'll spend the day in the canyon, having a picnic lunch and time to draw, sketch and paint the beautiful views.
In the evening, we'll head home and cook a family-style meal together and the Light Grey staff will lead a mini-workshop on rocks, gems and minerals!
After breakfast and making a sack-lunch, we'll head back to Zion to tackle one of the most epic and breathtaking hikes in the park. Those daring enough to climb the switchbacks up Angel's landing will be rewarded with one of the most insane sweeping views of Zion. Angel's landing isn't too tough, but it's not for the feint of heart! If heights is not your thing, you can opt in to the Weeping Rock Trail, where you can view the incredible force of water on the canyon, followed by another short hike to Canyon Overlook Trail, where you'll look down into the geology of Lower Zion Canyon. We'll end our day with a family style meal and a dip in the pool!
After breakfast and making a sack lunch, we’ll head back to Zion National Park for our final day of wandering. Today we’ll be exploring the beautiful Emerald Pools and we’ll spend the day hiking to a series of serene areas along the trail. We’ll bring our sketchbooks and our walking sticks and stop off on the trail at a couple of the most scenic locations for our picnic lunch and some drawing time. As the day winds down, we’ll head back at night to St George, where we’ll spend our final night together playing games, feasting and sharing stories around the table.
We’ll say goodbye to one another over a delicious farewell breakfast and plenty of good coffee, and the Light Grey team will assist everyone in getting back to St. George to catch their flights by Noon today. The team would be happy to help you coordinate your shuttle back to Las Vegas this morning as well for anyone leaving the same day. If you are staying on to explore the area further, we’d be happy to recommend some other amazing places for you!
Participants wishing to continue onward for the Bryce Canyon Art Camp will remain in St. George and continue to enjoy a day of exploring Sand Hollow State Park, where we’ll have a chance to swim, paddle-board, kayak, or explore on foot!
