In honor of the upcoming GUTS exhibition, textile artist, Cleo Malone is teaching an afternoon crochet workshop where students can learn to make incredible organic forms inspired by colorful coral reefs and underwater gardens. Learn how to crochet curls, twists, and bows in this make-and-take workshop. No crochet experience necessary, but some knowledge is fine, too.
Students will learn how to chain, single crochet, double crochet, increase, and change colors and make flowing forms with yarn.** This experimental class is about finding all that you can do with the simplest of crochet techniques. Yarn provided in class, crochet hooks need to be previously purchased (or buy one when you arrive for $5). Additional yarn also provided for purchase.
About the instructor:
Cleo learned how to knit when she was 7 and has been knitting ever since! She started teaching when she was 14 at her mother's yarn shop in California. In high school she knit during all her classes, and now in college uses textiles in most of her artwork. She is a sophomore at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design studying printmaking, papermaking, furniture design, and basically anything else involving fiber. She makes most of her clothes and loves getting people involved in the craft world. She sells knitting and crochet patterns on her website cleomalone.com, where you can also find images of her fine art work. She is also on Tumblr at cleomalone.tumblr.com and Instagram @cleomalone.
