I learned how to knit and crochet a few years ago, but it wasn’t until this last year that I started to consider myself a fiber artist. The capacity of my skill quickly went from simple scarves to hats, headbands, cable technique, fair isle designs, afghans, sweaters and even teddy bears! The more I learned, the more I admired the craft. I am in awe of the creations that a set of needles, ball of yarn and two hands moving rhythmically can make—especially creations that serve a practical use. During the fall/winter of 2016, I made hats and scarves for all seven of my nieces and nephews. I felt so proud that my skill and hard work was able to provide my nieces and nephews with additional warmth as they spent their afternoons on the playground. A year later, in 2017, I felt confident enough to share my skill and hard work with a larger audience, thus opening my Etsy shop, Woolhouse Designs. These last few months have been exhilarating and educational. I am looking forward for what is yet to come.
The items in this collection represent the beginning of my journey as Woolhouse Designs. These items were some of the first listed in my Etsy shop and the first I have ever sold. I am certain that the memory of making, packaging and sending off my very first order (Aden’s Cables: Fig) will be one I cherish in the years to come. While I am motivated to continue growing as a fiber artist and create more sophisticated patterns with intricate designs, these are the items that helped me enter the world of small businesses and I am forever grateful. This is just the beginning.
